Test Run

It's my first time here in blog land, and what started as a joke has turned into something fun and also serious. I'm thinking this may start off as a weekly thing, but my memory tends to be pretty short-term, so it could wind up as a daily or even hourly event. A kind of public ranting and venting so to speak.

So I suppose I'll start off with something along the lines of the story of the Atlanta Hawks from this weekend. Last night the Hawks took on the #1 team in the NBA in the Boston Celtics, in Boston, and won.. by double digits. Something that hasn't been accomplished in almost 3 years. What started as a fluke almost two years ago has become some what of a rivalry, more so for us fans in Atlanta than those in Boston, but it's big time for us down south. The Hawks were never respected as a play off contending team in 2008 and rightfully so, with a losing record, and their first play off shot in a decade. But to the surprise of thousands, and the dismay of many, the Hawks pulled through and battled. They did not go quietly, taking the #1 team in the league to 7 games, "shocking the world," and now we "knew."

Fast forward a year and a half and another play off stint later, and the Hawks were taking on again, the #1 team, the Celtics for the first time in the '09-'10 season in Boston. Atlanta got off to a bang with the lead after the first quarter, and continued to take it to the Celts, eventually flying home with an 11 point win over the favorites.  Needless to say that was a huge win for the Hawks last night, and I was extremely proud of "my boys" to say the least.

Personally, I'll never understand the fans or the players in Boston. For once, the Hawks were getting great calls, and played like a top contending team against the Celtics, who for some reason over the last 2 years have had some sort of magical hold over a decent team. Keeping a watch on this rivalry over the last couple years has me to believe that the people of Boston suck, and are the whiniest bunch of people I've ever encountered, lead by team captain Paul Pierce. You didn't get a call? Get over it. It's about time if you ask me. I'm sick of seeing all those extra muscles in your face straining every time you disagree with something.

I can only take ESPN's well-deserved compliments of the Hawks new found glory [something they've earned by God!] with a grain of sand if you're only going to retract your stats and numbers with a "well, maybe the Hawks didn't play so great as the Celtics just had a bad game." Bullshit. That was some of the best defense I've seen all season from any team, let alone the Hawks, and just because you can't handle "the big three" getting the ball handed to them time and time again [for a change] is not our fault. Give us some fucking credit for crying out loud.

Oh, and I'm sorry, but LeBron changing his number is a classy move. I don't particularly like LeBron either, but get over yourselves if you can't except his natural ability. I love Kobe too, and most of my friends know that. But LeBron dropping 23 has to be something you have to respect.

Now that I've let that go, I'll move on to celebrating the win. McCracken's bar in Marietta. Awesome Irish pub with an awesome staff, decent prices and damn good bar jalapeno poppers.

Saturday. The Hawks pushed their winning streak to 4, and are undefeated at home. I got to go to the game against the Hornets on Saturday and was kind of disappointed CP3 was taken out the night before with a sprained ankle. I love to watch raw talent, and apparently so does the rest of my fair city [something I may touch on another time], because the crowd was just not into it. None the less, I still enjoy my Hawks and winning by 23 was no different.

On that note, Jamal Crawford for 6th man of the year. He has to be averaging close to 20 points a game. Of course, that's a stat I'm just assuming, as he consistently is getting well into the double digits off the bench. He's truly made a difference in the roster, and every night it shows.
